Sunflower Mural

Of all my chalk drawings, this one was definitely the largest and took me the longest (around 5 hours with a break or two). I entered this drawing in one of Medina's Chalk Festivals in 2023, and it was one of the first times I tried using a blending technique that didn't involve rubbing my fingers raw (ouch...)! The words featured in this drawing are a loose paraphrase of one of my favorite Bible verses, Psalm 94:19.
"Who rises up for me against the wicked? Who stands up for me against evildoers? If the Lord had not been my help, my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence. When I thought, "my foot slips," Your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up. When the cares of my heart are many, Your consolations cheer my soul." (Psalm 94:16-19, ESV)
The Psalmist was praising the constancy of God, how He would never forsake His people. The Lord is faithful and trustworthy, and this produces a joy and peace that is beyond expression! What the author of this psalm didn't know, though, is that God is so faithful that He would go so far as to send His only Son to die on a cross so that His people would not be forsaken. When I am afraid, I am consoled by remembering what Christ Jesus has done for me, and this consolation cheers my soul.
